Happy Portuguese Independence Day from your oldest allie, the United Kingdom.
The Anglo-Portuguese Alliance is the oldest treaty (the Treaty of Windsor) still in effect and was signed into effect in 1387 though the treaty essentially started in 1373.
The lead up to the treaty was from 1147 where English Crusaders were instrumental in aiding the Portuguese in the conquest of Lisbon fro the Moors and mercantile treaties were signed.
Though I’ve only recapped a very small part of the treaty it’s effect throughout history is an incredibly interesting one.
But in short. Happy Independence Day Portugal.
